Blue Demons Sweep Golden Eagles in Conference Clash

DePaul improves to 22-4 all-time against Marquette
CHICAGO – The Scarlet and Blue dominated Marquette from start to finish, earning a 7-0 victory at XS Tennis Village on Friday afternoon. The Blue Demons now hold a 19-2 record in their last 21 meetings with the Golden Eagles, winning all nine matchups in Chicago.
In doubles, Eleanor Cochran and Sasha Stula started strong once again, tallying a 6-1 triumph on court three. No. 67 Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith defeated Marquette's Tiera Jarmond and Andie Weise by the same score, collecting the doubles point. The duo improved to an 8-2 clip in slot one this season.
Singles scoring began with a 6-2, 6-2 showing from Goncharov on court three. Cochran dismantled Luciana Mendoza, 6-2, 6-3, after making her first appearance in the No. 6 spot since January. Freshman Isabella Gibson clinched the match for the Blue Demons with a 6-1, 7-5 win in slot four. After controlling the first set, Gibson fell into a 2-5 hole in the second but rebounded to take the next five games. Roberta Sechi claimed victory in similar fashion, winning the first set, 6-4. The Italian faced a 1-4 deficit in the second set but rattled off five straight winning decisions, securing the fifth Blue Demon point on the day. On court two, Stula defeated Wiese 6-2, 7-6 (1), moving to 8-2 in dual play. Smith completed the sweep, beating Jarmond, 6-4, 6-4.
