DePaul University Establishes the Doug Bruno Fund for Women's Basketball Excellence

CHICAGO — DePaul University is proud to announce the establishment of the Doug Bruno Fund for Women's Basketball Excellence, a tribute to the enduring legacy and unwavering commitment of legendary head coach Doug Bruno. This new fund will support the continued success, development, and empowerment of the DePaul women's basketball program and its student-athletes for generations to come.
Coach Doug Bruno, a cornerstone of DePaul Athletics, spent nearly four decades building one of the most respected programs in the country. Known not only for his impressive record on the court including 25 NCAA tournament appearances but also for his profound dedication to student-athlete development, Coach Bruno has consistently championed the growth of women's basketball on and off the court.
"For decades, Doug Bruno has given all of himself to this program and the game of women's basketball, building not only a winning tradition but a legacy of empowering young women to lead with strength, purpose, and passion," said Vice President and Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy. "The Doug Bruno Fund for Women's Basketball Excellence is our commitment to carrying that legacy forward — to honor the foundation he built and to fuel the future of DePaul Women's Basketball."
The fund will provide critical resources to elevate all aspects of the women's basketball experience, including recruiting, training, academic support, leadership development, and team travel. It will serve as a beacon of excellence, reflecting Coach Bruno's values of hard work, integrity, and opportunity.
"Coach Bruno set a standard of excellence that has defined DePaul Women's Basketball for decades," said DePaul Head Coach Jill M. Pizzotti. "The Doug Bruno Fund for Women's Basketball Excellence will play a key role in supporting the long-term growth of our program. It ensures that we can continue to attract top talent, provide a first-class student-athlete experience, and compete at the highest level in the BIG EAST and nationally."
