
DePaul Opens BIG EAST Championships in Quarterfinal Round

Blue Demons begin tournament action versus Villanova
CAYCE, S.C. – DePaul travels to sunny Cayce, South Carolina, for the 2025 BIG EAST Tennis Championships, opening play against No. 4 Villanova in the quarterfinals on Friday, April 18. First serve starts at 11:45 a.m. CT from the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Scarlet and Blue hold a 7-5 in the BIG EAST Championships under head coach Marisa Arce.
Friday's match marks the third meeting in the past year between the two programs. DePaul opened the 2024 BIG EAST Tennis Championships against the Wildcats with a 4-1 victory. Eleanor Nobbs won 6-1, 6-1 on court two and Eva Goncharov tallied a 6-1, 6-2 triumph on court six.
The Blue Demons' lone loss in nine all-time meetings with the Wildcats, came on April 5 in a 4-3 defeat. No. 1 doubles, Goncharov and Hannah Smith, claimed the first point in the match, 6-4. Goncharov picked a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles action on court two. Villanova secured courts one, three, four and five to clinch the match, but Eleanor Cochran earned a straight-set advantage in slot six.
DePaul (10-10, 4-4 BIG EAST) won its final regular-season match on Senior Day versus Milwaukee, 4-0. The team honored Goncharov and Eleanor Nobbs, who both turned in terrific performances. Nobbs and Roberta Sechi dominated, 6-1 on doubles court two before Goncharov and Smith secured the opening point in the first spot.
In singles, Goncharov put together a 6-2, 6-0 showing in slot three. Sasha Stula won by retirement, and Cochran closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court six. Blue Demons led on all courts at the end of the match.
Villanova (10-11, 4-1 BIG EAST) finished the regular season 2-2 after its match with DePaul. The Wildcats beat the No. 1 seed UConn Huskies and Lafayette, but fell to Georgetown and Monmouth. Villanova's No. 4 seed is the best since 2021.
