DePaul Turns Sunshine into Championships at Drake Relays

Darius Brown, men’s 4x100m relay team claim victories on day two
DES MOINES, Ia. – After battling cool, windy conditions on Friday at the Drake Relays, DePaul track and field made the most of a sun-soaked Saturday, capturing event titles in the men's 110m hurdles and men's 4x100m relay, and taking center stage on the Blue Oval.
Surrounded by a field of participants ranging from middle school-aged competitors to high schoolers, junior college standouts, Olympians, gold medalists, and some of the world's best, the Blue Demons rose to the occasion on one of the grandest stages in American track and field.
Building on a strong Friday that featured Kash Allen's championship and school record in the shot put along with a school-record performance by Demetrius Rolle in the 100m prelims, the Blue Demons capped the weekend with a series of victories, podium finishes, and near-record efforts at Drake Stadium.
Darius Brown opened the day's title haul by winning the men's 110m hurdles final in 13.58. Following tradition, Brown took a celebratory lap around the track waving a Drake Relays championship flag and signing the event's iconic Bulldog statue, a tradition honoring champions at one of the sport's premier stages.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Dominic Cole, Charles Lewis, Amaru Mazibuko, and Demetrius Rolle followed with a dominant showing of their own, crossing the line first in 40.09. Like Brown, the quartet completed a victory lap and added their signatures to the Bulldog statue.
Beyond the championship performances, DePaul piled up strong efforts throughout Saturday's action. Rolle finished third in the men's 100m final, Sade Miller placed fourth in the women's 100m final, and both the men's and women's sprint medley relays turned in top-five showings. Alex Bernstein added a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw invitational, narrowly missing his program record.
