DePaul Battles Day One of WMU Invite

Men’s Tennis collects seven wins on first day of Vredevelt
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – DePaul men's tennis concluded its first day of the fall season at Western Michigan at the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19. Teams competing include Butler, Cleveland State, Notre Dame, and Marquette alongside host Western Michigan.
Friday's matches started at 8:00 a.m. CT, with one round of doubles followed by two singles rounds.
In Friday's doubles play, Pablo Torres Almeida and freshman Bernardo Vialle took the first victory of the competition, defeating Marquette's Roegner/St. Laurent, 6-3.
Thomas Giles earned a convincing victory versus Marquette's Evan Glebov, winning 6-3, 6-2.
Vialle jumped out to a quick lead against Butler's Aidan William winning set one, 6-3. Set two went back-and-forth, but Vialle ultimately prevailed, 7-6 (4).
Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Andy Hadziabdic battled Notre Dame's Noah Becker, eking out a set one win, 7-5. Hadziabdic wore down Becker taking home a set two 6-1 win.
Graduate student Sven Moser shined in the first round of singles. After taking the first set 6-4 against Luke Coppage of Marquette, he finished the job with a 6-2 set, sealing the win.
Moser continued to impress in round two of singles, as he defeated Cleveland State's Tristan Stine in the first set 6-2. Moser closed the door, secured the clinching point in set two, winning 7-5.
In DePaul's final victory of the evening, sophomore newcomer Sebastian Medica fell in the first set 3-6 versus Nicholas Patrick of Notre Dame. However, Medica battled back with a gritty 7-5 set two win, and secured triumph with a 10-6 victory in set three.

DePaul looks ahead to day two of the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational, with play beginning at 8:00 a.m. CT, Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Sorensen Courts. Thomas Giles and Alejandro Gandini look to compete in the ITA All Americans in Tulsa, Okla., starting Saturday, Sept. 20, through Thursday, Sept. 25. The duo will compete in doubles competition, with Gandini competing in singles matches.
