DePaul Comeback Falls Short on Road
1/28/2026 10:48:00 PM | MEN'S BASKETBALL
WASHINGTON D.C. – A season-high 19-point performance off the bench from Brandon Maclin wasn't enough for DePaul to complete a road comeback at Georgetown, as the Blue Demons fell 70-61 Wednesday evening at Capital One Arena.
Maclin scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, helping DePaul shoot 50 percent from three-point range after the break. It extended his personal-best stretch to seven-consecutive games with 10 or more points.
Layden Blocker and RJ Smith each added 13 points behind three treys apiece. Smith dished out a team-high four assists, while NJ Benson paced DePaul on the glass with six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite a slow start offensively, DePaul (12-9, 4-6 BIG EAST) kept Georgetown's lead within reach behind early threes from Blocker and Théo Pierre-Justin. Back-to-back baskets from Smith and Maclin tied the game at 16 all, before a 9-2 Georgetown run helped push the Hoyas ahead by 10 at halftime.
The Blue Demons opened the second half with eight unanswered points, trimming the deficit to 34-32. Georgetown answered with a 12-4 stretch to take back its double-digit lead. Facing a 12-point deficit late, back-to-back threes from CJ Gunn and Smith brought the Blue Demons within striking distance. Blocker's second-chance three with a minute to play cut the margin to five, 66-61, but Georgetown converted at the free throw line down the stretch to steal the game.
