DePaul returns to Wish Field Friday afternoon after first road win of the season
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer returns to Wish Field Friday, Oct. 16, to host St. John's for a BIG EAST matchup, kicking off a three-match homestand that closes out the Blue Demons' home slate. First touch is set for 2 p.m. CT, with the match streaming live on ESPN+. Admission is free to all DePaul soccer matches.
Demon Doings
DePaul enters Friday's match 3-3-4 overall and 1-1-1 in BIG EAST play after a 2-1 victory at UConn on Saturday, its first road win of the season and first conference win of the fall. Keagan Pace headed home a Noeh Hernandez corner in the 22nd minute before Hernandez added an insurance goal in the 60th. Chance Johnson made five saves to earn his second win of the season, and the victory evened the all-time series with UConn 4-4.
Hernandez was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, his fourth selection of the season, after figuring in all three of DePaul's goals last week. His seven shots at UConn matched the most by a BIG EAST player in a single match this season. The senior leads the Blue Demons with 18 points on six goals and six assists, and his 1.80 points per game rank third in the league. He became just the sixth Blue Demon to reach 60 career points, and among active BIG EAST players he leads in career assists (17) and ranks second in career points (61), goals (22) and shots (152).
Pace has scored in back-to-back matches and now has three goals on the season and 10 for his career.
Scouting St. John's
The Red Storm enter Friday's match 5-5-1 overall and 1-1-1 in BIG EAST play after falling 3-0 to No. 3 Georgetown on Saturday in Queens. Junior forwards Luca Fargnoli and Travis Thompson lead the scoring effort for the Red Storm with three goals apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Nico Bezama has started all 11 matches in net and owns a 1.55 goals-against average. Dr. Dave Masur is in his 36th season leading the St. John's program.
Series History
Friday will be the 20th meeting between the two sides and the first at Wish Field since the 2021 campaign. St. John's leads the all-time series 12-3-4 and has won four straight meetings, most recently a 4-1 St. John's win in October 2024 at Belson Stadium in which Hernandez netted the lone goal for the scarlet and blue. DePaul's last win in the series came on the road in October 2016, a 1-0 overtime victory in Queens.
Up Next
DePaul continues its homestand Tuesday, Oct. 20, with its final nonconference match of the season against Western Michigan at Wish Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, with the match streaming on Marquee Sports Network.
