DePaul rally cut short by late Friar penalty kick goal
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite staging a second-half comeback to tie the match at 2-2 in the 84th minute, Providence answered with an 85th-minute penalty kick to seal a 3-2 victory, handing DePaul its fifth loss of the season and it's first on the road. The result moved DePaul to 4-5-6 on the season.
How It Happened
The Friars seized the early advantage just 35 seconds into the match, as Amaya Coffie netted the goal on a setup from Carolyn Hinkle.
The pitch tilted heavily in favor of DePaul following the early goal, with three shot attempts coming over the next 20 minutes. The Blue Demons limited Providence to zero shots in that time.
Despite a prolonged shot-taking drought for the Friars, the home team struck again in the 22nd minute, doubling their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Signe Tingager, assisted by Hinkle and Jocy Koffi. Shots at the half were nearly even in spite of the score differential, as Providence held a slight 6-5 advantage in attempts.
Coming out of the break, the Blue Demons struck first in the 52nd minute, as freshman forward Katelyn Haiser notched her fifth goal of the rookie season on a left-footed, long-range strike, assisted by Shayna da Silva near midfield.
Thirty minutes later, the Blue Demons drew even at two apiece, as da Silva earned her fourth goal of the season on a free kick in the 84th minute.
A minute later, a penalty kick goal from Emma Gregorski gave the Friars a 3-2 advantage that they would sustain through the final five minutes of the match.

- The duo of Haiser and da Silva scored both of DePaul's goals across the last two matches.
