DePaul freshman tallied two goals and one assist in last week’s matches
CHICAGO — Freshman forward Katelyn Haiser earned a second BIG EAST Freshman Player of the Week honor in as many weeks after a two-goal, one-assist effort in last week's matches.
As a team, the Blue Demons finished the week 0-1-1, earning a 2-2 home draw against Georgetown on Wednesday, Oct. 21, before falling 3-2 to Providence on the road on Saturday, Oct. 24. Haiser notched points in both outings.
Against the Hoyas, Haiser recorded the assist on senior midfielder Shayna da Silva's goal in the 7th minute. Rushing down the far side, Haiser stopped midstride and sent a cross in front of goal for an approaching da Silva. Ten minutes later, Haiser doubled the Blue Demons' advantage, chasing down a forward pass in the box and scoring at a sharp angle, assisted by junior midfielder Mia Veldman and freshman midfielder Carolina Capizzi.
Haiser's scoring run didn't stop when the Blue Demons left Chicago for Rhode Island to face the Providence Friars on Saturday, Oct. 24. There, DePaul faced a two-goal deficit at the half, but Haiser reignited the Blue Demon offense with a long-range, left-footed strike that evaded the goalkeeper and put DePaul on the board.
Haiser has scored in each of DePaul's last three matches, including the game-winner against UConn, after netting twice this week. This season, the freshman forward has scored five goals, notched two assists and recorded a team-high 16 shots on goal in 15 appearances and 13 starts.
