Track and Field Hosts Fourth Annual Alumni Classic Friday

DePaul to honor seniors, career of Darius Brown at Gately Park
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field returns home this weekend to host the fourth annual Blue Demon Alumni Classic on Friday, Feb. 13, at Gately Park. Field events begin at 12 p.m. CT with track events scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT start.
Admission is free for all spectators attending the Blue Demon Alumni Classic. The meet will feature a senior recognition ceremony at 4:30 p.m. CT, followed by a special recognition honoring four-time All-American and DePaul track and field alum Darius Brown ('25).

Weekend Rewind
DePaul enters the Blue Demon Alumni Classic following a strong showing at the Badger Windy City Invitational at Gately Indoor. Senior Jaiah Hopf led the way, capturing the long jump title with a 6.02m mark and later earning BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors, the fifth weekly award of her career. On the track, Sade Miller delivered a runner-up finish in the 200m (24.06), while Vivian Wyller placed second in the mile and the women's 4x400-meter relay finished runner-up in 3:45.14.
The men's squad saw a strong relay effort as Denhm Holt, Tyce Smith, Christian Ortiz-Velazquez and Daniel Fasasi combined for a third-place 4x400m finish in 3:11.23, while Isaiah Hopf recorded a runner-up mark in the triple jump. In the throws, Sergio Ayala added a top-six finish in the shot put, and DePaul's middle-distance group continued to build momentum with season-best and personal-best performances from John Bush and Mohamed Abdullahi in the 800m.

Fans at Gately will see several of DePaul's top performers in action Friday, with a strong mix of sprint, distance and field-event standouts set to compete across the meet. On the women's side, Sade Miller and Aisha Kazeem highlight the short sprints and hurdles, while Lauren Pacsi, Isabella Orozco and Kalina Urbaniak lead the Blue Demons in the middle-distance races. Distance runner Vivian Wyller adds experience in the longer events, and in the field, Jaiah Hopf headlines the horizontal jumps alongside Katelyn Welsh in the pole vault and Eveline Reno in the high jump. Thrower Laila Richardson will also represent DePaul in the circle.
On the men's side, Demetrius Rolle and Christian Ortiz-Velazquez are among the sprinters to watch, with Daniel Fasasi and Denhm Holt competing in the 400m group and relays. Middle-distance veteran John Bush and miler Mohamed Abdullahi headline the distance events, while Kyle Clark and Mason Krieg add depth in the longer races. The Blue Demon Alumni Classic returns to Gately Indoor for the fourth installment of the annual home meet, continuing a tradition that began in 2023 as a celebration of DePaul track & field's past and present. Since its debut, the meet has grown into a competitive showcase featuring regional Division I programs, alumni engagement and senior-day recognition. The inaugural event in 2023 highlighted early breakthroughs from standout Blue Demons, including record-setting performances from Jaiah Hopf and Jarel Terry, while the 2024 edition expanded into a two-day competition welcoming a larger field of collegiate programs and alumni festivities. Last season, DePaul delivered one of its strongest showings at the meet, totaling 13 event victories highlighted by wins from Claire Dunn, Damian Rodriguez, Nina Amicon and Hopf, along with sweep performances in the relays.

The field includes several nationally ranked programs, highlighted by Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Milwaukee, bringing one of the strongest competitive lineups the meet has seen to date.
