Women’s Tennis Prepares for BIG EAST Back-to-Back

DePaul travels to Indy for UConn and Butler
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – DePaul women's tennis looks to rebound from three consecutive losses this weekend as the Blue Demons face conference opponents UConn and Butler. The UConn match is set for Saturday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. CT at IRC East, followed by Butler on Sunday, March 1st at 11 a.m. CT at IRC Dean Road. DePaul enters the weekend 2-0 in BIG EAST play after victories over Creighton and Georgetown.
RIGHTING WRONGS
Since 2020, DePaul is 5-3 in matches directly after a three-game skid and 2-1 against conference foes in such matchups. The Blue Demons defeated Xavier 4-3 (March 1, 2020) and Seton Hall 6-0 (April 7, 2023) and the lone loss came against UConn 5-2 (April 4, 2025).
JAWDROPPING JUNIORS
Heading deeper into conference play, DePaul has found lineup strength in its junior tandem of Sasha Stula, from Japan, and Roberta Sechi, from Italy. Stula is 8-1 in duals this season and 4-0 in her last four playing her best tennis of the season at the No. 1 court. At No. 5, Sechi holds a 7-4 dual record and 3-1 in her last four matches. Stula recently defeated the No. 43 nationally ranked singles player against Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 22, while Sechi's only loss in that stretch was a narrow 5-7, 5-7 shortcoming, also in Evanston.
HUSKY HAPPENINGS
- Connecticut enters the match at 5-2 and 1-0 at neutral sites.
- Since Marisa Arce took over as head coach at DePaul in July 2019, the Blue Demons are 1-1 against UConn, and 3-1 since 2009.
- Ela Platenikova has a 4-2 mark at the No. 1 court in duals this season, and previously played at the University of Maryland.
- Laura Glitz is in her first season at the helm after arriving from Purdue, where she became the winningest coach in program history.
BUTLER BULLETIN
- The Bulldogs are 3-10 this season and 1-1 at home.
- Brooke Arlington boasts Butler's best singles record in dual matches, recording an 8-4 tally at No. 2 court.
- Bulldogs head coach Cassie Shultz, appointed in August 2024, is 12-23 since starting in Indianapolis.
- Butler is 0-8 against DePaul in Arce's tenure, and they are 1-18 against DePaul since 2009.
