Butler result gives women’s tennis its first road win

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – DePaul women's tennis secured a 6-1 victory over Butler (3-12, 0-2 BIG EAST) in Indianapolis, Ind., ending a five-match road skid dating back to Feb. 22, 2025. The Sunday afternoon result came at IRC Dean Road and moved DePaul to 7-6 on the season and 4-0 in BIG EAST action.

Doubles play started well for the Blue Demons, with Hannah Smith and Clara Nilsson taking care of business, prevailing 6-0 on court No. 1. DePaul didn't take long to claim the point, thanks to a 6-2 triumph at No. 2 courtesy of Sasha Stula and Eleanor Cochran.

Similarly to the UConn match, DePaul jumped out to first-set advantages on every single court, capitalizing on its doubles momentum. Stula handled her duel comfortably, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 to secure the point and move DePaul halfway to the win at 2-0.

The next results to come were also DePaul victories, as junior Roberta Sechi closed her match 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and Smith followed with a 6-0, 7-6(2) win at No. 2. With DePaul ahead 4-0, the Blue Demons clinched the match before Nilsson, Yasemin Pehlivan, and Helin Alvarez completed their contests, ultimately sealing a 6-1 Blue Demon success.
