Blue Demons Fall in Series Finale at Providence

Parker and Houge notch hits in defeat
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul softball dropped the series finale to Providence on Saturday afternoon, falling 11–0 in five innings.
The Blue Demons recorded two hits on the day, one each from senior Alexis Houge and sophomore Chelsea Parker. Houge's base hit came in the first inning, while Parker added a single in the fourth.
Senior Bella Nigey got the start in the circle, tossing 1.2 innings before Hannah Messer entered in relief and covered the next 1.2 innings. Senior Kelly Greene recorded the final two outs for DePaul.
How It Happened
DePaul (12–18, 3–6 BIG EAST) threatened early when Alexis Houge led off the game with a single and stolen base to move into scoring position, but the Blue Demons were unable to bring her home.
Providence (11–11, 5–1 BIG EAST) broke through in the second inning, scoring four runs to take an early lead. The Friars added two more runs in the third to extend their advantage to 6–0.
DePaul put another runner on in the fourth with a single from Chelsea Parker but could not capitalize. Providence plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 11–0 and secure the series sweep.

DePaul returns to Cacciatore Stadium on Tuesday, March 24, to face UIC in the first of two meetings this season. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT. Admission is free for all fans.
