DePaul Carries the Baton to Three Records at Drake Relays

Three relay squads reset program marks in Saturday finale
DES MOINES, Iowa – DePaul track and field capped one of its strongest performances of the season Saturday at the Drake Relays, setting three program records to close out competition at the Blue Oval. The Blue Demons turned in record-breaking efforts in the men's distance medley relay and the women's 4x100 and 4x400 as postseason action nears.
On the track, DePaul's men were led by a record performance in the distance medley relay, as Jack Broghammer, Harper Bryan, Owen Larkins and Mohamed Abdullahi clocked 9:54.20 to finish ninth. The sprint medley relay team of Tyce Smith, Christian Ortiz-Velazquez, Daniel Fasasi and John Bush placed fourth in 3:20.39, while the 4x100 relay quartet of Christian Ortiz-Velazquez, Alex Long-Craine, Myles Money and Caleb Schulz took fourth in 41.08. The 4x400 relay team of Smith, Denhm Holt, Ortiz-Velazquez and Fasasi added a fifth-place finish in the invitational section with a time of 3:08.73.
On the women's side, the 4x100m relay team of Nevaeh Lowe, Claire Dunn, Helen Baumgarten and Sade Miller set a program record with a time of 44.85 to place third. The 4x400m squad that included Kayliah Motes, Nadja Moll, Aisha Kazeem and Dunn followed with a record-setting 3:40.54 in the invitational section. Miller also placed fourth in the 100m (11.69), while Baumgarten took fourth in the 100m hurdles (13.52). The sprint medley relay team of Lowe, Dunn, Moll and Isabella Orozco finished fourth in 3:51.69, and the distance medley relay group including Kalina Urbaniak, Motes, Amelia Montgomery and Tessa Roe placed 12th in 11:39.01.
In the field, Alex Bernstein led the Blue Demons with a third-place finish in the hammer throw championship, recording a mark of 69.84m. On the women's side, Elena Opp placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.37m, while Eveline Reno cleared 1.66m in the high jump.
