Track and Field Chases Championship Hardware in Storrs

Championship competition begins Thursday at Sherman Sports Complex
STORRS, Conn. – DePaul track and field is set to compete at the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships, from May 14-16 at the Sherman Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut.
The Blue Demons enter the weekend looking to build on one of the strongest championship stretches in program history. DePaul's men's and women's teams have each secured runner-up finishes in consecutive BIG EAST championship meets, including the 2025 outdoor championships and 2026 indoor championships.
Competition begins Thursday with multi-events, while running events will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. CT Friday and 11 a.m. CT Saturday. Field and multi-event highlights will be included throughout the broadcast.
Outdoor Recap
DePaul has continued to build momentum throughout the outdoor campaign, producing program records, major event wins and NCAA West Region qualifying performances ahead of the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
The Blue Demons have rewritten the outdoor record book this spring in multiple event groups. In the women's 400m hurdles, Aisha Kazeem broke the school record with a time of 59.33, while Kalina Urbaniak added a new program mark in the 1,500m at 4:20.89. The pole vault record book also saw a new entry, as Katelyn Welsh established DePaul's first outdoor women's pole vault record with a clearance of 3.83m.
The relay groups have also played a major role in the record-setting season. On the women's side, the 4x100m relay lowered the school record to 44.85. The men's 4x400m, 4x800m and distance medley relay teams also added new program marks, with the 4x400m squad running 3:08.60, the 4x800m group clocking 7:27.13 and the distance medley relay finishing in 9:50.24.
In the field, Alex Bernstein continued one of the top individual outdoor campaigns in program history, extending his own school record in the hammer throw to 71.84m at the Illini Tune-Up. The mark leads the BIG EAST, ranks sixth in the NCAA West Region and sits ninth nationally in NCAA Division I entering championship weekend.
The outdoor season included several major moments, including Drake Relays titles from Isaiah Hopf in the men's triple jump and Jaiah Hopf in the women's triple jump. DePaul also saw continued progress from its sprint and hurdle groups throughout the spring, with multiple Blue Demons entering the postseason positioned near the top of the conference and in the NCAA conversation.

Several Blue Demons enter championship weekend positioned near or inside NCAA West Region qualifying range. The top 48 declared athletes in each event advance to the NCAA West First Round.
