DePaul looks to keep unbeaten road streak alive in BIG EAST test
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer searches for its first win of conference play on the road, taking on the 7-2 Xavier Musketeers in Cincinnati on Sept. 30. The evening battle will begin at 5:30 p.m. CT, with coverage on ESPN+.
The Blue Demons are undefeated on the road this season, holding a 2-0-1 record. In each of their three matches, DePaul held its opponent scoreless.
DePaul Debrief
The Blue Demons reached a 0-0 decision against Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener at home, moving to 3-2-4 on the season.
Freshman forward Katelyn Haiser took the first of DePaul's eight collective shots before DePaul's offense found chances on consecutive corner kick opportunities midway through the first half. None of the three chances found the back of the net.
By halftime, each team notched three shots and neither goalkeeper made a save.
Inconsistent possessions and scant chances in the offensive third continued through the second half and into the final 10 minutes of the match. DePaul goalkeeper Mason Hillery didn't record a save until the 86th minute, thwarting a late Seton Hall scoring chance.
The Blue Demon offense had the final say, as Haiser generated a shot in the 87th minute and the team recorded another corner kick opportunity. Neither scoring chance met its mark.
By the end of 90 minutes, the Blue Demons recorded their fourth shutout of the regular season and held Seton Hall scores for the third consecutive match.
Scouting Xavier
The Musketeers host the Blue Demons coming off a 4-3 victory over Georgetown to open BIG EAST play.
In the matchup, Xavier took a 4-1 lead by the 70th minute with three unassisted goals from Nastassja Garrett, Reese Sochacki and Peyton Kohls, and one goal by Kieran Bradley, assisted by Regan Dancer.
Over the next 20 minutes, Xavier goalkeeper Sami Lipcon yielded two goals to Georgetown, the second coming in the 85th minute. Leading by just one goal, 4-3, the Musketeers closed out the final five minutes to get the win.
This season, ten separate players have netted a goal and five collected two or more. Brooklyn O'Brien leads with five goals, while Kohl and Bradley each collected four and Frances Reuland and Maria Tapia recorded two apiece.
Lipcon holds a majority of time in net this season, starting six of her seven appearances. She allowed seven goals, made 17 saves and holds a 6-1 record. Taylor Thomas started the other three matches for Xavier, posting 11 saves and allowing five goals.
Series History
Wednesday's road matchup marks the two teams' 16th meeting since 2013. The Blue Demons trail 4-9-2 in the series, most recently dropping a 3-0 result to the Musketeers at home last September. DePaul sits at 2-3-2 when playing Xavier on the road but hasn't won a match in Cincinnati since a commanding 4-0 victory in 2015.
