DePaul men's basketball head coach Chris Holtmann hired former Butler and Milwaukee head coach, LaVall Jordan, to the program's coaching staff in April 2024 as the program's general manager, in addition to assistant coach duties. . Jordan will serve as the program's General Manager, in addition to assistant coach duties.
"LaVall is a talented coach who has had success as an assistant and head coach," said Holtmann. "He will assist us greatly and play an instrumental role in the NIL space and roster construction. LaVall has great experience in developing guards for the NBA and his skill teaching is outstanding which will play an important role as we develop our team."
Jordan helped DePaul to an 11-win increase from 2023-24 to the 2024-25 season and the greatest KenPom ranking improvement nationally. The Blue Demons set a program record 314 made three-pointers in Jordan's first year on staff and ranked fourth all-time with 524 team assists. Jordan was instrumental in the development throughout the season a DePaul won back-to-back games to end the regular-season for the first time 2006-07 and advanced to the program's first postseason since 2018-19.
Since 2022, Jordan has served as an on-air game and studio analyst for Fox Sports, providing in depth analysis of college basketball and in depth coverage of the BIG EAST conference. Jordan also worked with the Milwaukee Bucks as an NBA scout during 2023-24. In his time as a collegiate coach, Jordan has coached and developed multiple NBA players, specializing in guard development.
Jordan was most recently the head coach at Butler from 2017-22 where he led the team to the 2nd rd of the NCAA tournament in 2018. He notched a pair of 20-win seasons, two postseason appearances and was slated to add third to the resume, before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remainder of the 2019-20 season. In 2019-20, Jordan led the Bulldogs to a 22-9 record and top-25 ranking, reaching as high as No. 5 in the national polls for the highest ranking in program history. While at Butler, Jordan guided the Bulldogs to their first BIG EAST Tournament win in program history (2018) and a win #1 ranked Villanova in 2017. He also signed the highest rated recruiting class in program history in 2020 and was named to the Werner Ladder Naismith Men's Coach of the Year Watchlist (2020).
Jordan made the return to his alma matter following one season as head coach at Milwaukee, where he guided the Panthers to the Horizon League Tournament Championship Game as a No. 10 seed. Prior to beginning his career as a head coach, Jordan spent six seasons as an assistant at Michigan under head coach John Beilein. While in Ann Arbor, Michigan notched five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2013 Final Four and national title game followed by an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. Jordan was also an integral part in the staff that lead the Wolverines to a share of 2012 Big Ten regular-season title before winning the title outright in 2014, the programs first outright title in 28 years.
Following his professional playing career, Jordan embarked on his coaching career at Butler as coordinator of basketball operations (2003-04) and an assistant coach (2004-07). As an assistant in 2007, Jordan helped Butler sign the programs first Top 100 rated prospect. Jordan also spent three years as an assistant coach at Iowa under Todd Lickliter.
Jordan is a 2001 graduate of Butler, where he helped the Bulldogs win three conference tournament titles and four-consecutive postseason appearances. He was a two-time All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference performer and was the league's tournament MVP in his senior season. At the time of his graduation, his 91 wins while a member of Butler's team made him the winningest player in Butler history.
