Ashton Millender was first named an assistant coach on May 31, 2023 and was retained on staff at DePaul under head coach Jill M. Pizzotti in the same role in addition to director of player development responsibilities.Â
In her second season as an assistant, Millender mentored a youthful guard group and aided newcomer Taylor Johnson-Matthews to All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention honors. Johnson-Matthews posted 14.5 points per game, good for second on the 2024-25 squad, and finished in double figures 24 times. She scored 20+ points on eight occasions and shot 38-percent from long range.Â
In the 2023-24 season, Millender helped graduate guard Anaya Peoples to a All-BIG EAST Second Team nod after leading the Blue Demons in both scoring and rebounding. Peoples ranked top-10 in four-statistical categories and finished in double figures in 26 of 31 games on the season while averaging 17.2 points per game.Â
Millender, a standout Blue Demon from 2014-19, led the Blue Demons to five NCAA Tournaments including one Sweet 16 as a student-athlete. In her playing career, she appeared in a program record 144 games, while making 77 starts. Her 286 made three-point field goals ranks second in program history and her 1,392 career points are good for 25th all time. Millender and her teammates captured four BIG EAST Conference Tournament titles in her time in the scarlet and blue.Â
Upon graduation from DePaul, Millender went on to pursue a professional career, playing overseas in five countries including Australia, Finland, Mexico, Nicaragua and Portugal. During her time in Mexico, Millender lifted her Real Esteli team to a pair of championships. When not playing overseas, Millender has returned to Chicago and been a camp coach at Doug Bruno Basketball camp.Â
A native of Glenwood, Ill., Millender graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology with a concentration in health and minor in communication. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Sport, Fitness and Recreation Leadership in DePaul's College of Education.Â
