Late Goal Knocks Off DePaul

SYRACUSE, N.Y. A goal with just under five minutes left in regulation saw DePaul drop a BIG EAST road match, 1-0, at Syracuse on Saturday night. The loss ended DePaul’s five match unbeaten streak as the Blue Demons suffered their first defeat in just over three weeks.
Both sides were held scoreless over the first 85 minutes action. Syracuse (6-4-3, 3-4-1 BIG EAST) took advantage of an opportunity late in the game when Tom Perevegyencev scored on a rebound after Spencer Schomaker’s header hit the post. The game-deciding score came at 85:03 and gave the Blue Demons little time to find the equalizer.
DePaul (6-5-3, 4-3-1 BIG EAST) managed five shots in the match while the Orange finished with 13 attempts. Brian Visser totaled four saves for the Blue Demons and his counterpart, Robert Cavicchia, was credited with one save.
The Blue Demons return to Wish Field next Saturday for a home match against St. John’s . The Red Storm sits atop the Red Division standings after knocking off USF, 1-0, Saturday night to claim sole possession of first place. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Game Notes: The loss was the first for the Blue Demons since Sept. 28... the Blue Demons have allowed just two goals in the last six games... they are 4-1-1 in that span... DePaul is now 1-1-2 on the road this season... the all-time series between the two programs is tied at 2-2-0.
