SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The DePaul men's tennis team finished the ITA Midwest Regional on Sunday at Notre Dame's Ecks Tennis Pavilion. The Blue Demons had four student-athletes qualify for the main singles draw while the doubles pairs of Matija Palinic and George Chanturia along with Bartosz Jozwiak and Sven Kasper each advanced in the doubles bracket.
Palinic and Chanturia, who started the day with a perfect 6-0 record, were the last Blue Demons still remaining in the doubles draw. The DePaul pair reached the Round of 16 by knocking off the 11th seeded pair from Western Michigan in the opening round and then defeated a Notre Dame pair on their home court for the right to play today.
Competing against the Ohio State pair of Balazs Novak and Devin McCarthy, Palinic and Chanturia battled and went point-for-point with hard-hitting serves and big shots, but it was the Buckeye pair, who claimed the 8-6 victory.
The loss was the first for Palinic and Chanturia this season, while the pair had already claimed the Purdue Fall Invitational Flight B Doubles Title earlier this fall.
The Blue Demons close out the Fall portion of their schedule next weekend at the Vredevelt Invitational hosted by Western Michigan, Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
