CLEMSON, SC - The No. 66 DePaul men's tennis team's four-match winning streak came to an end with a 5-2 loss at No. 51 Clemson, on Friday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Blue Demons fall to 6-2 while the Tigers improve to 7-2.
Playing their third consecutive ranked opponent in the last eight days, the Blue Demons went at Clemson with everything they had in their arsenal, however the Tigers countered and were able to edge the Blue Demons with four singles wins.
Clemson swept the doubles point, but DePaul fought back on the singles courts as five matches went to a third set.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead with a win on the first court, before Bartosz Jozwiak won his 13th singles match of season to pull DePaul within one. After losing the first set 7-5, Jozwiak overpowered Geerardo Meza in the final two sets with a pair of 6-2 victories.
DePaul's Matija Palinic had a chance to even the score at two on the second court, but the junior lost his three-set battle to Derek Difazio and Clemson took a 3-1 advantage.
The Tigers clinched the dual with a three-set win on the third court.
With the match already decided, newcomer Filip Dzanko won his fourth match as the freshman mirrored Jozwiak's match. Dzanko dropped the first set, but battled back and topped Dominique Maden 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Blue Demons return to the courts on Sunday when they play at Furman. The first serve is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
