NORTHBROOK, Ill. -- The DePaul men's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 73 Princeton on Sunday at the Glenbrook Racquet Club. The win was the program's second straight against a ranked opponent as the Blue Demons topped No. 63 Iowa on Saturday.
Another weekend second came when Blue Demon senior Ben Hartman clinched DePaul's victory -- but none was bigger than Sunday's. With the match knotted a three, the DePaul and Princeton teams gathered and looked on as fans in attendance as well as club members gathered to see what all the noise was about. The squads and fans cheered passionately and enthusiastically with each point and into the third set of Alex Faust and Hartman's match which was finishing on the sixth court.
After the first two sets were back-and-forth, Hartman fed off his team's energy and cruised to a 6-2 set-three win which resulted in huge running hug from his Blue Demon teammates.
DePaul got off to slow start and quickly found itself down 2-0 after losing the doubles point and the first singles match.
Matija Palinic put the Blue Demons on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Matt Splinder in the second position before George Chanturia knotted the dual at two with a win on the third court. Chanturia topped Matt Siow in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Augie Bloom put the Tigers within one of clinching the match with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over Bartosz Jozwiak in the fourth position before Blue Demon newcomer Filip Dzanko evened the score at three with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dan Richardson on the fifth court.
DePaul returns to the courts next weekend and travel to No. 51 Clemson on Feb. 11 and play at Furman on Feb. 13.
