Syracuse Tops DePaul, 2-0, on Friday Night

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In its final regular season road contest of 2012, the DePaul men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Syracuse on Friday night on the road. Despite a nearly even performance, the Blue Demons came up short against the Orange.
A five-save effort from Eric Sorby and a 12-shot showing by the DePaul offense were not enough for the Blue Demons (3-10-2, 0-6-1 BIG EAST) to overcome the two first-half goes by Syracuse.
Just over 15 minutes after the initial kickoff, the Orange got on the board. After a save by Sorby minutes earlier, a DePaul foul set up a free kick for Syracuse's Jordan Murrell. Off the restart, Tyler Hilliard notched his first goal of the season for Syracuse when he headed the service into the back of the net.
With five to go in the first frame, the Orange got their insurance. In the 40th minute, it was again a header that added to Syracuse's total. Off a pass from Juuso Pasanen, Jordan Vale knocked in his eighth goal of the season to give his squad a 2-0 advantage over the Blue Demons.
A furious effort from DePaul in the second half-led by junior captain Ray De Leon who registered four shots-challenged the BIG EAST Tournament-bound Orange but the Blue Demons could not surmount the initial Syracuse lead.
DePaul's final contest of 2012 is set for Friday, October 26, at Wish Field. The match, scheduled to kickoff at 1 p.m. in Lincoln Park, is also serving as DePaul's senior day and field trip day for Chicago Public Schools.
