Blue Demons Fall to Houston, 6-3

HOUSTON - A three-game winning streak came to an end for DePaul on Saturday as the Blue Demons dropped a 6-3 decision to Houston on the second day of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational.
DePaul move to 3-5 overall, while the Cougars improve to 6-5 in 2015.
The first two innings came and went without a single hit from either side.
Brittany Boesel reached on an error and stole second before Megan Leyva smacked a run-scoring double to put DePaul ahead. Leyva then reached third on a pass ball and stole home to give the Blue Demons a 2-0 lead.
DePaul increased its margin to three following a Nicole Pihl solo shot - her first of the season - in the fourth inning.
Houston responded with a two-run home run over the center field fence to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of the road team.
The Cougars filled the bases to open the fifth with zero outs. A walk and a hit-by-pitch plated a pair before a single scored two more runs to put Houston on top for good 6-3.
DePaul was then held scoreless in the seventh and dropped its first game in the last four contests.
The Blue Demons were led offensively by Pihl who went 2-for-3. Staci Bonezek and Leyva were the only ones to pick up hits outside of Pihl.
Maxine Rodriguez (2-1) went the distance on the mound, giving up six runs on six hits.
DePaul returns to the diamond at 7:30 to take on Massachusetts. Live stats can be found .
Notes: This was the 26th meeting between the programs all-time... DePaul leads the series 17-9... Houston has won the last three matchups... the Blue Demons move to 0-2 in true road games this season...
