CHICAGO -- The DePaul softball team couldn't get the bats going in a 5-0 loss to Louisville on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Demons (13-17, 5-0 BIG EAST) were limited to just four hits across the seven innings of play.
Mary Connolly was a bright spot at the plate for DePaul as she got on base in all three at-bats by virtue of a hit and two walks.
Ali Lenti, Morgan Maize and Nicole Pihl rounded out the offensive contingent, each collecting a hit.
Louisville (23-12, 11-4 ACC) got a quality start from Maryssa Becker who threw a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts.
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first inning behind a pair of run-scoring hits from the middle of their lineup to take a 2-0 lead.
DePaul was held without a hit until the third frame when Lenti and Maize hit back-to-back singles. Following a walk to Connolly, the Blue Demons were unable to push a run across the plate as Louisville worked out of the jam.
Solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings pushed the Cardinals out to a 4-0 cushion.
Louisville added a run in the sixth after drawing a bases-loaded walk and held the Blue Demons to just one hit in the final three innings. The Cardinals took the result, 5-0.
DePaul takes to the diamond this weekend when it travels to Georgetown for a three-game series, April 11-12.
