CHICAGO - A furious finish for DePaul came up just a little short Saturday at Wish Field.
Simon Megally scored on a shot into the lower left in the 87th minute after a long pass from Kevin Beyer in reducing the Blue Demon deficit to a single goal.
But Megally & Co. could not come up with the equalizer in a 2-1 BIG EAST Conference loss to Providence.
The setback slowed DePaul drive to the BIG EAST playoffs and left coach Craig Blazer's side with a record of 7-6-2, 2-4-0 in conference. Providence (9-5-0, 4-2-0) won its fifth in a row.
The Friars opened the scoring in the 37th minute on a shot right in front of the Blue Demon net by Liam Wilson. They picked up an insurance score in the 51st minute when Julian Gressel converted a penalty kick.
DePaul resume its push to the postseason with a Wednesday BIG EAST match against Butler that will kick off at 11 a.m.
