Blue Demons Fall to Northwestern State

SAN MARCOS- In game two of the CenturyLink Classic, DePaul softball battled Northwestern State, but fell to the Lady Demons 5-1. DePaul finished its first day at the Classic with a split 1-1 record after defeating Abilene Christian 6-5 in its first game of the day.
It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the fifth when Northwestern State jumped ahead 5-0. The Lady Demons scored five home runs, the first two back-to-back to take and never relinquish the lead.
DePaul's first time on the board came at the top of the sixth inning when Ellie Forkin hit a single down the infield line in order for Brianna Viles to run home.
The Blue Demons defense collected 18 putouts for the game, with junior Nicole Pihl and senior Naomi Tellez responsible for 14 of the total.
Northwestern State now holds a 2-1 series advantage over DePaul. Previously, the programs faced one another in 2002, with the Lady Demons notching a 4-0 win.
Eugene Lenti's team returns to the mound tomorrow in another double-header against Texas State and Oklahoma State. DePaul's game against the Bobcats is scheduled for 10 a.m. Central time and 3 p.m. against the Cowgirls.
