Softball Falls to No. 13 Oklahoma

FULLERTON, Calif. -The DePaul softball team fell 6-1 to No. 13 Oklahoma in its final game of day one of the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif. Friday evening at Anderson Family Field.
DePaul (6-16) had its first chance to score in the bottom of the first. With bases loaded and one out, the Blue Demons' next two batters, Kali Gardner and Naomi Tellez, both hit fly outs to end DePaul's scoring opportunity.
Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Oklahoma (18-5) put four runs on the board.
DePaul responded with its lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Gena Lenti reached third after being walked, then advanced off of two wild pitches. Cherelle Chambers pinch ran for Lenti and stole home to make the score 4-1.
Oklahoma extended its lead by scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the final 6-1 score.
The Blue Demons' Megan Leyva (1-7) pitched a complete game, allowing 15 hits, six runs and striking out one.
Oklahoma's Kelsey Stevens (7-3) got the win for the Sooners. Stevens allowed one hit, one run and struck out seven in 4.2 innings. Jayden Chestnut allowed two hits and struck out three in 2.1 innings.
DePaul returns to action at Anderson Family Field on Saturday, Mar. 19. The Blue Demons face No. 6 Alabama at 12:30 p.m. and New Mexico at 3:30 p.m CT.
