Softball Falls to No. 6 Alabama

FULLERTON, Calif. - The DePaul softball team fell 14-6 in six innings to No. 6 Alabama in day two of the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, California at Anderson Family Field Saturday afternoon.
Alabama (26-4) started off with three runs in the top of the first.
DePaul (6-17) responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. The Blue Demons first three batters, Micah Fitzgerald, Angela Scalzitti and Dylan Christensen all singled to load the bases. Morgan Maize followed with a RBI double to score Fitzgerald and Scalzitti.
With Dylan Christensen on third and Maize on second, Dylan Christensen scored next on a wild pitch. Maize recorded DePaul's final run of the inning off a sacrifice fly from Naomi Tellez to put the Blue Demons up 4-3.
Alabama wouldn't let DePaul hold on to the lead for long. The Crimson Tide scored three runs in the second, two in the third and three more in the top of fourth to pull ahead 11-4.
The Blue Demons scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Gena Lenti, Megan Leyva and Tellez loaded the bases as Ellie Forkin stepped up to the plate. Forkin singled to right field, scoring Tellez. Leyva scored DePaul's final run off a Haydn Christensen ground out to second.
The Crimson Tide notched three more runs in the top of the sixth for the final 14-6 score.
Leyva (1-8) threw a complete game for DePaul. The sophomore allowed 18 hits, 14 runs and struck out two.
Madi Moore (8-0) got the win for Alabama. She allowed nine hits, six runs and struck out one in four innings pitched. Sydney Littlejohn pitched the final two innings, striking out four and not allowing a hit.
The Blue Demons face New Mexico next at 3:30 p.m. CT today.
