Softball Falls to No. 23 Nebraska

FULLERTON, Calif. - The DePaul softball team wrapped up its final game of the Easton Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 7-5 loss to No. 23 Nebraska at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Californina.
DePaul (6-19) scored three runs in the top of the first. With Micah Fitzgerald on third and Dylan Christensen on first, Morgan Maize popped a sacrifice fly, scoring Fitzgerald and advancing Dylan Christensen to second. Naomi Tellez followed with a two-run home run to put DePaul up 3-0.
Nebraska (18-9) tied the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Cornhuskers scored again in the sixth inning to go up 4-3.
DePaul battled back in the top of the seventh with two runs. With bases loaded, freshman Alysia Rodriguez drilled a single to right center, scoring pinch runner Cherelle Chambers and Maize to put DePaul back in the lead 5-4.
Another three-run homer by Nebraska in the bottom of the seventh ended the game with the final score of 7-5.
Maize (5-11) pitched a complete game for the Blue Demons. She allowed eight hits and struck out six.
Nebraska utilized three in the circle as Cassie McClure (10-4) got the win for the Cornhuskers. She pitched for two innings and allowed two runs and two strike outs.
DePaul heads to St. Louis on Tuesday, Mar. 22 to take on Saint Louis at 3 p.m. After, the Blue Demons head to Charleston, Ill. for a doubleheader against Eastern Illinois on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT.
