North Dakota State Defeats Softball in Eight Innings

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The DePaul softball team fell 3-2 to North Dakota State in the opening game of the Easton Crimson Classic on Friday at Alabama's Rhoads Stadium.
DePaul (2-9) rallied in the seventh inning. The Blue Demons scored two runs to force the game into extra innings, but a Bison run in the eighth would end DePaul's comeback.
The Blue Demons were forced to play catch up from the start after NDSU (8-7) scored two runs in the first. Katie Shoultz started the game and reached second on a DePaul throwing error. She scored on Cheyenne Garcia's double to left center. Garcia later crossed home on a RBI single from Bre Beatty to put the Bison up 2-0.
Dylan Christensen started the Blue Demons' rally in the seventh with a single up the middle. The junior was replaced with pinch runner Cherelle Chambers who crossed home on a clutch two-run home run by Marsha' Pendilton. Pendilton's home run was her first of the season and fourth of her career.
With the game tied at two. The Bison started the eighth inning with a single to right field. With two outs, Logan Moreland stepped knocked a game-winning RBI triple for the NDSU win.
Morgan Maize (2-6) pitched all eight innings. The senior struck out five, walked seven and allowed eight hits.
NDSU's Jacquelyn Sertic (5-2) logged her fifth win of the season in the circle. Setic threw a complete game, allowing four hits, one walk and struck out eight.
DePaul is back on the field this afternoon and takes on Louisiana-Monroe at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
