St. John's Defeats Softball 3-1

CHICAGO -- The DePaul softball team fell 3-1 to St. John's Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series at Cacciatore Stadium.
The loss marks DePaul's (21-23, 11-3 BIG EAST) first series defeat to a BIG EAST team this season.
After remaining scoreless for the first three innings, both teams tallied runs in the fourth inning.
St. John's (23-19, 7-7 BIG EAST) recorded a two-run home run in the fourth to take the lead.
The Blue Demons responded with their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. With Dylan Christensen in scoring position, Morgan Maize's sacrifice fly to left field scored the junior.
The Red Storm recorded their final run in the top of the seventh for the final 3-1 score.
McKenzie Murray (4-4) threw a complete game for St. John's. She allowed four hits and struck out one.
Maize (16-14) suffered the loss for DePaul. She pitched a complete game, allowed six hits and struck out two.
The Blue Demons return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 27 in South Bend, Ind. DePaul takes on No. 18/18 Notre Dame at 3 p.m. CT.
