The Blue Demons fell in a hard fought battle to St. John's
QUEENS, N.Y. - The Blue Demons won the first two sets but could not pull through to win the match after dropping to St. John's 2-3 (26-24, 25-21, 27-29, 16-25, 9-15).
"Great fight from our group," said head coach Marie Zidek. "We rebounded from a disappointing Seton Hall match and found a way to put ourselves in position to win that match. I am very proud of this group as they continue to find ways to squeeze more out of their games. We are very much looking forward to the second half of BIG EAST and we still are in the driver's seat for our future."
St. John's jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first set and remained in the lead until the Blue Demons tied it up at 17's. The score would intertwine until kills from Mattie Norris and Donna Brown and a Red Storm attack error gave DePaul the first set 26-24.
In the second set, the Red Storm held the lead for a majority of the stanza until kills from Avarie Evans-Allen and Claire Anderson put the Blue Demons ahead. With two more knots in the score, DePaul would go on to win the set 25-21.
The third stanza would see 16 knots in the score up until 27's, however, St. John's would take their first set 29-27. St. John's would hold DePaul to 16 points in the fourth stanza and topped off the match in a tight battle where they would win 15-9.Â
The Blue Demons will be back in action Friday, Oct. 19 on the road at Marquette.
