DePaul Hosts Xavier to Conclude Home Stand

The Blue Demons are set to host Xavier as the final of a five-game home stand.
CHICAGO - The Blue Demons (4-13, 2-4 BIG EAST) are set to host conference foe Xavier (5-13, 3-4 BIG EAST) as the final of a five-game home stand Wednesday. Play will take place at McGrath-Phillips Arena and will begin at 6:00 p.m.Â
"The team is very much looking forward to this BIG EAST showdown with Xavier as they sit directly ahead of us in conference standings," said head coach Marie Zidek. "They play a style similar to ours in the 6-2 offense complete with a lot of combination quick ball plays. This is a huge match up for us and the team is very excited to get underway.
"We know how important this next match is. We are absolutely in the driver's seat right now with regard to our goals, and the team is playing harder and better every day in practice. As I've told the team, October is the month of truth where the grind of practice and school is very real. How well we can stay focused and sprint one match at a time will dictate how close to our goals we can actually get, which is obvious in statement but very hard to embrace. This match is setting up to be one of our best and most competitive yet."
Last Time Versus Xavier
In the teams' last meeting in 2017, Xavier edged DePaul in three sets 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 22-25). The Blue Demons jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first set and a 9-4 lead in the second, but could not outscore the Musketeers to keep the advantage in either stanza.Â
Scouting The Musketeers
Xavier went 1-1 last weekend after a five-set win over Villanova to then getting swept by Georgetown. Senior Laura Grossman led the team in kills (2.88 k/s), while ranking second in digs (4.12 d/s).
