Georgetown topped DePaul in three sets after falling to the Blue Demons earlier this season.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – DePaul dropped to the Hoyas in three sets 0-3 (16-25, 21-25, 20-25) Friday night at McDonough Arena. This makes DePaul's record 5-19 (3-10 BIG EAST).
The first four points traded off between sides before the Hoyas inched away into a 6-3 lead. DePaul would capitalize by going on a 4-0 run featuring back-to-back kills from Mattie Norris to even the score at 6's. The score would knot two more times before Georgetown would recapture the lead that would continue to grow, giving the Hoyas their first set 25-16.
Georgetown scored seven of the first eleven points to hold a comfortable lead early on in the second set, however DePaul responded by going on a 4-0 run featuring kills from Isabell De La Rosa, Donna Brown and Claire Anderson to tie up the score at 7's and force a Georgetown timeout. The Hoyas would score the first point out of the stoppage, however an Anderson kill and block by Ashley Marshall would give the Blue Demons their first lead of the set at 9-8. DePaul went on another 4-0 run courtesy of a service error, kills from Emma Price and Anderson and Katie Dolan service ace to put DePaul up 13-10. Georgetown responded on a 6-0 run to take back the steering wheel and while the Blue Demons would eventually bring the deficit to two points, Georgetown would take the second set 25-21.
A Dolan service ace, her second of the night, gave DePaul the first point of the stanza but Georgetown would score seven of the next nine points to take a 7-3 lead. The Hoyas would hold the lead for the remainder of the set and would go on to take it 25-20.
The Blue Demons will take on Villanova tomorrow in a 7:00 p.m. match.
