The Blue Demons fell in four sets on the road at Xavier
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Blue Demons took the second set but ended up falling in four 1-3 (20-25, 25-23, 14-25, 20-25) at Xavier Friday night.
The first sixteen points exchanged between sides before DePaul broke away into the lead and would go on to lead Xavier 13-7 before a DPU timeout was called. Out of the stoppage, the Musketeers would pick up their game bringing the difference to two points with DePaul up 16-14, leading to the second DePaul timeout. Â Out of the stoppage, Xavier went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 19-16. The Musketeers would go on to take the first set 25-20.
DePaul jumped out to a 3-0 run on back-to-back Donna Brown kills and a XU attack error to take the first lead. The score would knot at fives but DePaul would regain the lead on a 3-1 run featuring kills from Emma Price and Claire Anderson. The score would go on to knot four more times until DePaul went on a 2-0 run, putting DPU up 13-11 and forcing a Musketeer timeout. The teams would meet again with 15's across the board and the score would knot a few more times before DePaul captured the second set win 25-23.
The teams traded the first eight points until Xavier went on a 3-0 run to escape into a 7-4 lead. The Musketeers would hold a comfortable lead and take the third set 25-14.
Xavier would jump out to a 3-1 lead and would remain in front until the teams met at threes. The score would remain close with DePaul taking the lead at two different points before Xavier took back the stanza. Regardless of a close battle, the Musketeers would go on to take the final set 25-20.
DePaul will return to action Sunday in a match at Butler beginning at 1:00 p.m.
