
On the Road Again: DePaul Set for Matches against Minnesota and Milwaukee

Match vs. Minnesota on Thursday, Milwaukee on Sunday
CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team heads into the end of the week with two road matches against the Minnesota Gophers on Thursday and the Milwaukee Panthers on Sunday. Thursday's match is at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday's match is at 1:00 p.m.
The Blue Demons (2-1) are coming off a week of training following their 3-1 takedown of Illinois, who had previously beaten #3 Duke. They will travel to St. Paul and take the pitch at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities - where head coach Erin Chastain both played and graduated from. She was a four-year starter, three-year captain and finished her career ranked fourth on the school's all-time points list, fifth in goals scored and tied for third in assists.
Scouting the Gophers
The Gophers (3-1) are coming off a 1-1 weekend - including a 2-1 double overtime win against Ole Miss and a loss to #22 Washington State 2-0. They return 5 of their starters this season, all seniors. At the helm for her seventh season is Stefanie Golan, who coached the Gophers to a 11-5-3 (7-3-1) record for the 2017 season.Â
The overall series is tied at 1-1 between the two programs. The first meeting of the two teams took place on Sept. 11, 2011 finding DePaul victorious at Wish Field, in a 2-1 overtime win. Last time the pair battled was a year later on Sept. 9, 2012 with the Gophers shutting out the Blue Demons at home, 3-0.Â
Scouting the Panthers
The Panthers (2-0) recorded wins against both Northern and Eastern Illinois with a score of 3-0. Milwaukee is the first Horizon League team to record a full season with not a single loss, finishing the 2017 season 16-0-4. They were the lone unbeaten team in the nation. At the end of the season, they were ranked second in the nation in goals-against average (0.285), total assists (61), assists-per-game and third in the nation in shots-per-game (19.8), save percentage (.908), and W-L-T percentage (.900).Â
Milwaukee was picked by Horizon League coaches as the favorite to win the Horizon League with 5 first-place votes. They are coached by Troy Fabiano who is in his third season. The all-time record between the Blue Demons and the Panthers is tied at 3-3.Â
