de Bruijne Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

CHICAGO - Junior defender Max de Bruiijne was named as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.Â
de Bruijne played all 270 minutes of their three matches this past 2-1 week - including the 1-0 against Western Michigan who was then ranked No. 14, a 2-1 loss to Oakland and a weekend shutout of LMU, 3-0. The junior scored the only goal for the Blue Demons in Friday's match against Oakland.Â

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the WeekÂ
Zach Zandi, Villanova, Sr., M (West Chester, Pa.)
Villanova senior midfielder Zach Zandi had a six-point week for the 2-0 Wildcats as he recorded two goals and two assists in the overtime victories. On Monday against a William & Mary squad which was receiving votes in the United Soccer top 25 poll, Zandi had a hand in all three goals in the 3-2 victory with a goal and two assists. He scored the scored the first goal of the match, 30 minutes into the contest. He followed up his goal with an assist on the then-go-ahead goal in the 88th minute and another helper on the OT game-winner. On Friday, Zandi scored the OT game winning goal in the 96th minute against Loyola, giving Villanova its third straight win.

Max de Bruijne, DePaul, Jr., D (Abcoude, Netherlands)
DePaul's Max de Bruijne played all 270 minutes of the Blue Demon's 2-1 week, which included a             1-0 win over then-No. 14 Western Michigan, a 2-1 loss to Oakland and a 3-0 victory over Loyola Marymount. De Bruijne helped anchor a back line that allowed just two goals to score all week, with just 11 total shots on goal in three games. Against a ranked Western Michigan squad, de Bruijne and co. allowed just five shots on target. Only six were on goal in the loss against Oakland and no attempts were on net in the victory over Loyola Marymount.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Luis Barraza, Marquette, Sr., GK (Santa Teresa, N.M.)
Marquette keeper Luis Barraza had a standout showing in goal against Central Michigan on Thursday, a 2017 NCAA tournament squad. Barraza held onto his first shutout of the season, while making six saves in net. In each half, he made three stops. To assist in the win, the offense netted four goals.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Carson Williams, R-Fr., GK (Plano, Tex.)
Villanova rookie goalkeeper Carson Williams had a 2-0 week in net for the Wildcats registering eight total saves and one shutout. On Friday against Loyola, Williams made four saves in posting a clean sheet in the 96 minute, one goal contest. He allowed two goals in the 3-2 OT win over William & Mary earlier in the week resulting in a 1.00 goals against average for the week. His season goals against average is .64 with a pair of shutouts.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Brandon Guhl, Butler, Jr., F (Houston, Texas)
Guhl scored both goals for No. 11 Butler in the 2-0 victory over then-No. 16 Western Michigan on Friday (64th and 69th minutes). He also assisted the Bulldogs' lone goal in the 2-1 loss to Drake on Monday.
Derek Dodson, Georgetown, So., F/M (Aurora, Ill.)
In the 2-0 victory for the Hoyas against Radford, Dodson scored both goals, earning four points for the week.
Tani Oluwaseyi, St. John's, Fr., F/M (Mississauga, Ontario)
Oluwaseyi scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of overtime to give St. John's the 2-1 win over Fairfield on Friday night. The freshman also assisted in the Red Storm's first goal of the contest.
Carlton McKenzie, Seton Hall, Jr., F (Birmingham, England)
McKenzie scored two goals last week for the 1-1 Pirates, including the game-winning goal in the 85th minute against Central Connecticut State on Tuesday night. McKenzie also scored in the 17th minute against Delaware on Saturday, cutting the Blue Hens' lead to 2-1 at the time.
Zachary Nelson, Xavier, RS-So., GK (West Linn, Ore.)
On stage in his home state, Nelson had four saves in a 0-0 draw with Oregon State. Nelson faced 19 shots and 12 corner kick situations as he solidified his third-straight shutout of the season. Nelson has led the way in Xavier's 310-minute scoreless streak to start the season.
