DePaul Falls to No. 14 Villanova

Blue Demons lose 86-74 to visiting Wildcats on Wednesday
CHICAGO – DePaul placed four in double figures, but visiting No. 14 Villanova made 15 three-pointers in an 86-74 decision over the Blue Demons on Wednesday night. Femi Olujobi scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead DePaul.
The Blue Demons knocked down six of their first eight shots, but Villanova utilized four early three-pointers and the score was tied 16-16 just over seven minutes into the game.
Villanova (17-4, 8-0 BIG EAST) scored six straight points to open up a 31-22 lead forcing DePaul to call a time out near the eight-minute mark. Coming out of the break, Devin Gage drilled his second three-pointer of the evening and Olujobi followed with a traditional three-point play to pull the Blue Demons with three with 6:59 on the clock.
The Wildcats went up by seven twice in the final four minutes of the first half, but Eli Cain drained a three from the wing to beat the buzzer and the Blue Demons trailed, 40-36, at intermission.
Two three-pointers to begin the second half for Villanova kickstarted an 11-2 run for the Wildcats that ended with a three-pointer to make the score 51-38.
The Wildcats held a double digit lead for a majority of the second half, but a last run for DePaul got the Blue Demons within seven with just under three minutes left in the game. However, the Wildcats converted a free throw and a jumper on consecutive possessions to push the advantage back to 10 with 1:52 left on the clock.
Olujobi went 7-for-10 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line while Eli Cain scored 17 points with four assists. Max Strus added 13 and Jaylen Butz scored 12 points.
Eric Paschall led Villanova with 20 points and four rebounds and Phil Booth scored 19 with eight assists.
