5-0 DePaul Softball Set for Samford Tournament

The Blue Demons will compete in four games in Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Tournament.
CHICAGO, Ill. - The Blue Demons are set to head to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Samford Tournament after captivating a 5-0 start to the season in last weekend's Total Control Invitational.
DePaul will open the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. contest against Eastern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 15 and will then compete in a 3:00 p.m. game against tournament host Samford. The Blue Demons will play one game on Saturday against Samford with first pitch at 11:30 a.m. and will wrap up the tournament with a lone Sunday meeting against Georgia State at 11 a.m.
Last Time Versus Eastern Illinois
The Blue Demons hold a tight 18-17 advantage in the series against the Panthers. The two last met in 2016 and split a doubleheader in Panther territory. EIU took the first game 3-1, while DePaul fought back and won the second game 5-3.
Scouting the Panthers
Eastern Illinois is 2-3 after competing in the Rafter Memorial Classic this past weekend. The Panthers took down Kennesaw State twice and dropped twice to Ohio and once to UT Chattanooga.
Leading the Panthers on the mound is McKenna Coffman (1-0) who has a 2.25 ERA after one weekend of play. Coffman pitched eight innings and has allowed nine hits and two runs.
Megan Burton currently sits atop the Panther offense hitting a .375 in 16 at bats over the weekend. Burton scored four runs on six hits and posted four rbi.
Last Time Versus Samford
Samford and DePaul split the series 2-2 as DePaul won the last contest between the two in 1993.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Samford currently sits 1-6 after competing in the Cowgirl Classic. The Bulldogs defeated McNeese State and fell to Lipscomb, Campbell, No. 14 Arkansas and fell in their first contest against McNeese State.
Lacey Spear (1-1) tops the stats for the Bulldogs with a 2.63 ERA. Spear pitched eight innings for Samford over the weekend and allowed six hits and five runs.
Whitney Hinton sits atop the Samford offense hitting a .238 in 21 at bats over the weekend. Hinton scored two runs on five hits and posted two rbi.
Last Time Versus Georgia State
DePaul holds a 3-2 advantage in the series against Georgia State. The Blue Demons fell 6-3 in the last contest between the two in 2018.
Scouting the Panthers
Georgia State presents a record of 0-6 after competing in the Hawaii Paradise Tournament. The Panthers were topped by Saint Mary's College, Hawai'i, Fresno State, UT Arlington and #1/2 UCLA.
Caitlin Ray leads the Panther offense with a .333 ERA. In 18 at bats, Ray had six hits, no runs and tacked on 3 rbi.
Leading pitchers for the Panthers is Amanda Chance (0-2) who pitched 8.2 innings over the weekend and allowed 14 hits and nine runs.
