Another exceptional pitching job from Halvorson along with a strong offensive performance lift the Blue Demons over Samford.

CHICAGO, Ill. - After falling to Samford on day one of the Samford Tournament, the Blue Demons came back in a redemption round 5-2. DePaul now holds a record of 7-1.

Natalie Halvorson won her fifth game at the mound in another stellar performance where she threw a 1.55 ERA and only allowed two runs.

DePaul made their mark early with a solo homerun from Maranda Gutierrez in the top of the first. The bomb was her second of the season. Angela Scalzitti was walked and Jessica Cothern doubled, advancing Scalzitti to third. Kate Polucha reached first on a fielder's choice that found Cothern out at second. Polucha stole second and directly after, a powerhouse single to center field from Gabby O'Riley scored Scalzitti and Polucha, giving the Blue Demons a 3-0 advantage to end the first half inning of play.

Both teams remained quiet until the top of the fifth when Morgan Greenwood slammed her first homerun of the season, widening the advantage to 4-0. Samford would score their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning.

The top of the seventh saw an insurance run from DePaul when Cothern doubled to center field and then Greenwood doubled to left center to score Cothern, forcing a Samford pitching change.

Halvorson would hold the Bulldogs to two runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

DePaul will play in their final game of the Samford Tournament this evening at 4:30 p.m. in their lone contest against Georgia State.
