DePaul Takes Game One of Doubleheader

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Blue Demons took the first game of the doubleheader against Providence by slaughter rule in an 8-0 sixth-inning victory.
DePaul got on the board in the bottom of the first on two solo homers courtesy of Maranda Gutierrez and Kate Polucha.
Both teams remained quiet until the bottom of the fifth when the Blue Demons brought in seven runs. Skylor Hilger reached first on a bunt and advanced to second on a ground out. Erin Andris was walked and eventually advanced to third, as Hilger scored on an error.
Gutierrez singled to score Andris and then stole second before advancing to third on a double from Jessica Cothern. Madison Fisher entered the game to pinch run for Cothern before Morgan Greenwood was walked, enforcing a Friar pitching change.
Out of the break, Gutierrez scored on a sac fly from Polucha. Gabby O'Riley was walked to load the bases before Angela Scalzitti was hit by a pitch to score Fisher.
Taylor Young entered the game to pinch run for O'Riley. Hilger was walked to load the bases once again before Greenwood scored the final run of the inning after Hilger was walked.
DePaul would score one more run in the bottom of the sixth after Andris singled to center field and stole second on a fly out. Cothern singled, scoring Andris.
