Doubleheader Goes to DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill. - DePaul captures its 20th straight win in the series against the Friars after winning both games of today's doubleheader. The second game saw a final mark of 8-2, improving DPU's record to 28-9 (8-1 BIG EAST) and dropping Providence's record to 23-16 (5-6 BIG EAST).
The Friars got on board first with two runs in the top of the first. DePaul responded to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Angela Scalzitti singled to shortstop and Alysia Rodriguez launched her first home run of the season for two RBI. Maranda Gutierrez then blasted out her second homer of the day for the Blue Demon lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, DePaul brought in three more runs to widen the lead. Skylor Hilger tripled to right field and scored on a ground out. Gutierrez singled up the middle and scored on a double from Jessica Cothern before Madison Fisher replaced Cothern as a pinch runner. Morgan Greenwood singled to right field, scoring Fisher.
DePaul scored its last two runs in the bottom of the sixth when Rodriguez singled and was brought home on a two-run bomb from Cothern.
