Spencer-White Takes Individual Lead While DePaul Maintains Second

DePaul seeking first team and individual BIG EAST titles on Sunday in final round
OKATIE, S.C. – Charlie Spencer-White registered four birdies on the front nine to take over the lead while the Blue Demons maintained their second spot on the team leaderboard as the second round concluded Saturday at Callawassie Island Club. DePaul aims for the first BIG EAST team and individual titles in program history on Sunday in the final round.
Spencer-White is the lone player under par through 36 holes as he stands at 142 (-2) for the tournament. He posted the best round of the tournament with a 69 (-3) on Saturday and holds a two-shot advantage over Villanova's Mark Benevento. Spencer-White's round is the best by a DePaul golfer at Callawassie Island since the 2014 BIG EAST Championship third round score of 67 (-5) for Adrian Halimi.
DePaul is the only school with two golfers in the top five as Joe McCarthy is tied for fifth after he carded a 73 (+1) in his second round. He is among five players with a two-round score of 147 (+3).
Marquette holds the top spot on the team leaderboard with a score of 591 (+15) and is six shots ahead of the Blue Demons at 597 (+21). Creighton flip-flopped with Marquette on Saturday as the Bluejays went from first to third place while the Golden Eagles jumped from third to first. Creighton is at 599 (+23) and is followed by Butler in fourth place with a score of 606 (+30).
Campbell Wolf is tied for 20th, Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan is tied for 24th and Grant Boyson is 43rd to round out the Saturday action for DePaul. Wolf and Gatmaytan both posted a 77 (+5) in the second round while Boyson finished with an 87 (+15). Wolf holds a 36-hole score of 153 (+9) and Gatmaytan is at 155 (+11). Boyson stands at 172 (+28) after two rounds.
The third and final round begins Sunday at 8 a.m. ET. The BIG EAST team winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual competitor.
