CHICAGO, Ill. - The Blue Demons are set for two weekday non-conference games against in-state foes Illinois and Loyola. DePaul will play a single game at Illinois Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. and will then play a lone game at Loyola Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.Â
DePaul is currently 31-12 overall after going 1-3 in its last home series of the season against Creighton over the weekend. A weather delay turned into a suspended game in the first contest between the two which resulted in three games being completed on Sunday. Creighton took the first game 5-7 but DePaul would even things out by winning 6-5 in game two. Regardless of a rally attempt from DePaul in the rubber game of the series, the Bluejays would slide past in a 6-4 victory to claim the series.
Last Time Versus Illinois
DePaul holds a narrow 12-10-1 advantage in the series against the Illini. The Blue Demons were shutout 6-0 in the last contest between the in-state rivals in 2015. Illinois plated three runs in the first inning of play. The next five innings would remain quiet for both teams until the top of the seventh when Illinois brought in the final three runs of the game, including a solo homer. DePaul went down in order in the bottom of the inning for only its third loss in the last ten games played prior to the contest.
Scouting the Illini
Currently 27-22 on the season, Illinois opened up its 2019 slate going 3-5 in the Houston Invitational. The Illini enter the lone contest against DePaul on a seven-game losing streak after getting swept in series against Michigan and Ohio State, as well as falling in a single game against Northwestern, who the Blue Demons defeated 9-7 in Evanston earlier this season. Illinois is currently tenth in the Big Ten standings and boasts four batters with averages in the .300's and one with a .407 in Bella Loya.
Last Time Versus Loyola
The Blue Demons hold a decisive 63-8 advantage in the series against Loyola and have won the last five contests between the two with the most recent being a close 2-1 victory in 2017. Both teams remained quiet until the top of the fourth when an RBI single from Jessica Cothern plated the first run of the game. The Ramblers responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth but DePaul would have the last say, scoring the deciding run of the game on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth.
Scouting the Ramblers
With a 25-21 overall record on the season, the Ramblers had a strong start to the 2019 slate after going 9-0 and sweeping opponents in both the Total Control Invitational and Runnin' Bulldog Softball Tournament. Loyola enters the contest against DePaul losing seven of its last ten games. Most recently, the Ramblers split a series against MVC rival Illinois State after the first game was called due to weather. DePaul defeated ISU at home in a single game earlier this season. Loyola currently boasts three batters with an average in the .300's and two hitting above .400 in Shannon McGee (.408) and Allyson Ivey (.457).Â
