DePaul Advances to BIG EAST Championship for Third-Consecutive Year

ROSEMONT, Ill. - A three-run first inning for DePaul was the key in a 4-0 victory over Providence in the BIG EAST Semifinals. DePaul's record improves to 33-14 overall as the Blue Demons advance to the championship tomorrow for the third-consecutive year.
DePaul set an exhilarating tone early on the game to take an immediate 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Maranda Gutierrez singled and advanced on a ground out from Jessica Cothern. Morgan Greenwood was walked and the two were brought home on a three-run home run from Kate Polucha to spark the momentum for the Blue Demons.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the fourth when Brianna Viles struck out swinging and reached on a Friar error. Skylor Hilger who singled earlier in the inning scored on the error, increasing the lead to 4-0.
Natalie Halvorson held Providence for the remaining innings for her 20th win in the circle this season.
DePaul will face Villanova tomorrow in the BIG EAST Championship game. Play will take place at The Ballpark at Rosemont and is set to start at 11:30 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live for the first time on FS1.
