Blue Demons Suffer Run Rule Loss in Game One of Doubleheader

VILLANOVA, Pa. - DePaul fell 10-2 in a run rule loss cut short in the fifth inning in game one of a three-game series at Villanova. The Blue Demons are now 31-14 (10-5 BIG EAST) on the season.
Villanova struck first and brought in two runs in the bottom of the first inning on two solo home runs. The Wildcats would bring in three more runs throughout the second and third innings to grow their lead to 5-0.
In the top of the fourth, DePaul would bring in its only two runs of the game. Angela Scalzitti walked and Gabby O'Riley was hit by a pitch. Cara Jimenez entered the game to pinch run for O'Riley before Scalzitti was brought home on a single from Alysia Rodriguez. Jimenez scored on a fly out from Brianna Viles, enforcing a Villanova pitching change.
The Wildcats would score five runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 10-2 and secure an early win.
The second game of the doubleheader will begin shortly.
