
Four Run 6th Inning Powers DePaul over Samford

CHICAGO - DePaul softball used eight runs over three innings to defeat Samford in a rematch in their fourth game of the Samford Tournament. The Blue Demons (6-8) have one more game remaining tomorrow against Kentucky at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
Senior pitcher Krista Dalgarn (4-2) got the nod for DePaul and picked up her fourth win of the season.
Samford took a two run lead in the bottom of the fourth but DePaul fired right back in the top of the fifth, tying the game up at 2-2. Junior Kate Polucha singled to left field before freshman Tori Meyer hit her first career home run to score both.
The Blue Demons scored four more runs in the sixth that broke the game open for DePaul. Junior shortstop Maranda Gutierrez doubled to center field before advancing to third on a passed ball. Sophomore Gabby O'Riley reached on a fielder's choice scoring Gutierrez. Freshman Grace Frazier pinch ran for O'Riley and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Polucha hit her second single of the game to score Frazier and take a 4-2 lead. Senior catcher Jessica Cothern hammered a ball over the center field wall to score Polucha and DePaul had the 6-2 advantage.
Samford wouldn't cross the plate again and DePaul would go 1-1 for the day.
