
DePaul Takes Down IUPUI in Saluki Invitational

CHICAGO - DePaul softball claimed victory in their second game of the day on Friday over IUPUI, 5-3, in the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill. This moves the Blue Demons to 7-10 on the season with three games remaining this weekend.Â
Sophomore transfer Erin Hocker (1-2) got the nod in the circle and earned her first win of her Blue Demon career. Junior pitcher Natalie Halvorson would come on in relief in the top of the seventh to pick up her first save of the season.Â
DePaul got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore utliity Gabby O'Riley launched a solo home run to mark her fourth blast of the season. Junior shortstop Maranda Gutierrez hit her first triple of the season to score senior Erin Andris and give DePaul a 2-0 lead going into the second.Â
IUPUI would tack on a run in the second inning but DePaul would counter with two more in the third. Kate Polucha doubled to score Angela Scalzitti and add a RBI to her repertoire and a Gutierrez SAC BUNT allowed Polucha to score and give DePaul a 4-1 advantage.Â
In the fifth, Polucha would score again off a O'Riley single and increase DePaul's lead to 5-1. The Jaguars would have a late two-run rally but it would fall short.Â

DePaul has two more games tomorrow against host-Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois.Â
