Carroll Sets School Record, Blue Demons Open Season at Blue & Gold Invitational

Carroll posts a 7.51 in the 60m dash to set a new program best
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - DePaul track and field stormed out of the blocks to begin the 2021-22 indoor track & field season, cruising to three individual victories at the Blue & Gold Invitational at the University of Notre Dame. DePaul sprinter Tori Carroll notched a new school record in the 60m dash, logging a time of 7.51.
Also on the women's side, Kiersten Walker recorded a win in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 55.21. Back in 2020, Walker finished second in the event at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. In this spring's outdoor season, Walker advanced to the NCAA West Prelims in the 400m.
In men's action, the Blue Demons finished 1-2-3 in the 60m hurdles. Darius Brown, Ashton Colaire and Myles Marshall led the pack, finishing in the podium positions, respectively. Brown and Marshall were running in their first meet for the Blue Demons. Meanwhile, Colaire returns to the roster after finishing second in the 110m hurdles at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships this spring.
"The men's 60m hurdles and women's 60m dash were particular bright spots in our effort this evening. It was nice to see so much quality work being put in by all….old and new," said Dopek.
The Blue Demons will be back in action next week when they host the Blue Demon Holiday Invite at Gately Indoor in Chicago on Friday, Dec. 10. The meet is set to begin with field events at 3 p.m. and action on the track will begin at 4:30.

"With so many new faces having joined our program in the last year, it was great to get this first meet under our belt," said head coach Dave Dopek. "It was definitely a solid opener for us."
Carroll, who finished second at the last edition of the BIG EAST Indoor Championships back in March of 2020, posted a strong showing in the Blue Demons opener in South Bend, Ind. Carroll had an impressive outdoor track season last year, advancing to the NCAA West Prelims in the 100m dash and the long jump. Her new school record in the 60m dash bested Tayler Whittler's 7.52 mark that was set back in 2016.Also on the women's side, Kiersten Walker recorded a win in the 400m dash, clocking a time of 55.21.
